The Australian Heritage Dancers, based in Sydney, are a demonstration group, specialising in the presentation of Australian social dances from European settlement up to modern times - recreating and preserving our country's traditional music and dance for the entertainment of audiences today. Australian Heritage Dancers Inc is on the Register of Cultural Organisations.
Since their formation in 1984 the Australian Heritage Dancers, in their colourful 1850s costumes, have added interest and gaiety to countless conferences, historical events, balls and overseas group entertainments in and around Sydney. In 1988 they were proud to be featured in many official Bicentenary Celebrations (70 performances), in the City of Sydney Sesquicentenary functions, and over the years in Citizenship ceremonies, Australia Day celebrations, as well as entertaining visitors to Darling Harbour and The Rocks.
The Dancers have performed at such well known venues as Sydney Town Hall, Sydney Opera House, Queen Victoria Building, Camden Park, Elizabeth Farm, and have been in constant demand each year to add a truly historical atmosphere to events commemorating our National heritage.
The Australian Heritage Dancers have represented Australia, by invitation, at prestigious overseas Folk Festivals ‑ first in Canada in 1986 and in 1993 a most successful 10-day appearance at FOLKMOOT USA in North Carolina. The group also performed at the 47th International Folkloric Festival in Sicily in February 2002.
