| Why "Newnes"? |
As a small boy in 1951, I visited a place called "Newnes" in the western Blue Mountains,
north of Lithgow, New South Wales. It must have made a profound impact on me, because I
have been going back there ever since. Since the mid 80s, I have become increasingly
involved with the place, so that, today, I now run a kiosk at weekends in what was the bar
of the old Newnes Hotel. As an outcome of this, I am now also very interested in Tourism in
the Lithgow and Blue Mountains area. Most of Newnes is now within Wollemi National Park,
which is part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.

| My other "spare time"(?) interests: |
I am a historian, with a particular interest in railway history. I am a member of the
Australian Railway Historical Society, NSW Division and several other railway
enthusiast, historical and special interest groups.

| Worklife: |
|
Although I joined a bank when I left school, I have spent most of my working life in the
Travel Agency business, specialising in BSP ticketing and travel accounting. I am no longer
working with a travel agency, but I am still involved with tourism generally, mainly
through my weekend Newnes interests. I am now over 60 years old and, having been retrenched twice, I now consider myself retired. However, if anything suitable and attractive turns up, I would certainly be interested, particularly if it involved part time work.

| Religion: |
I am a member of the Wallerawang congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Australia,
Bowenfels Parish. Prior to this I was a member at St Peters Presbyterian Church, North
Sydney for a number of years.

| Family: |
I live by myself (hence my involvement with so many different things), but live close to
my mother and my brother with his family.
